Following on from the success of the Disney30 Countdown which was a Disney show, his show became so popular he needed to change the name to prevent an IP (intellectual property) claim from Disney Channel. However, of course it would have been highly “unlikely” action would have been taken by Disney Channel, considering his previous involvement with the Network, and his close business and religious links with a few of the Executives from Disney.

The show has capitalized on the use of a hybrid of what Jeremy Shum dubs as “jingles” and “skits”. The show, which is seemingly somewhat a lot different from other comparable kid’s radio show, reinvents entertainment, whilst encouraging young kids to be the best they can. Thinking big, thinking bright and wearing bright-colored sunglasses when looking into the future is what the show is about.

The jingles however, have not been without controversy.

In fact, fans have “faced” him off with various American Idol contestants on YouTube, which caused fan battles. One YouTube video features him singing, then American Idol judge Simon Cowell responding stating “You can’t sing; you can’t dance; so what do you want me to say.” His infamous singing voice has also spawned a string of anti-Jeremy Shum petitions and hate-clubs.

Furthermore, while gaining lots of new fans, he has also lost a myriad of fans after a confidential Sony BMG letter was leaked throughout the Internet, signed by music industry heavyweights, regarding a “Krystal Meyers and Jeremy Shum sex” video. Meyers is a Christian Contemporary Music artist whose single topped the charts in Japan, and is daughter of programmer behind e-Sword.

Probably the most popular and controversial jingles, which later turned into a Weird-Al Yancovich-like Backstreet Boys Parody, is the song “I Propose on My Knees”, which is a song dedicated to Demi Lovato. This song where Shum tells Lovato she could be his “Ashlee Simpson” has shot beyond fame of any other parody song, hitting a record number of MySpace hits, before it was taken off, as unofficial audio.

However, it seems the somewhat controversial ideas just keep rolling in the door, and it seems like it’s only the beginning of Miley5.net, a new chapter of new media journalism.

What we do know however, is Jeremy, no matter how disliked his singing is, and no matter how many petitions are started to try to stop him singing, will be singing, to more and more pop stars, as he wins more and more Internet awards for ever-heightening digital radio ratings.
